Leonainie: The Poe-Poem Hoax of James Whitcomb Riley, 1948-1949.

The collection consists of a manuscript in carbon copy of a book about the Leonainie hoax (Leonainie: The Poe Poem Hoax of James Whitcomb Riley) by Paul G. Henderson, and correspondence the author generated attempting to get the book published. Henderson, of Summit, N.J., was the son of newspaper editor John O. Henderson, who helped in the hoax. The book was never published.

In 1877, James Whitcomb Riley and John Oscar Henderson, editor of the Kokomo Dispatch, published a poem they claimed was written by Edgar Allen Poe. The poem was actually written by Riley, who wanted to play a joke on his detractors. The hoax ran for a considerable time before it was exposed, and continued to pop up throughout Riley's lifetime.
